This University (RUHS) was established on 26th February, 2005 in the state of Rajasthan with an aim of developing and maintaining excellence in the quality of medical & allied healthcare education and its academic standards. The university was established by an act ( passed by the Legislative Assembly of Rajasthan
RUHS is a recognized university ) under section 2(f) and 12 B of UGC Act, 1956. This university is running various undergraduate, post graduate, PG Diploma, Superspeciality, PG fellowship courses in its different six faculties viz; Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy and Paramedical.

At present 591 colleges are affiliated with this university in different six faculties. Apart from this, the following are the constituent colleges of RUHS :-

The campus of university is situated at Sector-18, Kumbha Marg, Pratap Nagar, Jaipur which is 4 km. far from the Jaipur International Airport and 15 km. from Heritage city of Jaipur. Campus of university is spread over 2.00 lac sq.mt. land. The beautiful buildings of university and its constituent medical college, hospital, hostels, staff residences, sports complex are example of finest architecture of the state in medical field. Its constituent medical and nursing college is situated in Pratap Nagar itself nearby administrative block of university whereas the constituent dental college is situated at Shastri Nagar, Jaipur with attached dental college. Govt. RDBP Jaipuria Hospital situated at Milap Nagar, Jaipur is also an attached hospital of constituent medical college of RUHS.
