Menace of Predatory Journals and Choosing the Right Journals for biomedical Research (28/04/2018 To 28/04/2018)

Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, Jaipur organised one day CME entitled “Menace of predatory Journals and choosing the right journals for biomedical research papers” on 28th April 2018 . CME aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skill sets of researchers, Clinicians through an extensive exposure on approaches for formulation of research protocol ,appropriate study design ,statistical methods and its critical appraisal. Dr. Sudhanshu Kacker, Vice Dean, Research, RUHS, welcomed the dignitaries, eminent resource faculties and participants. Eminent speakers like Dr. V.M. Katoch,Former Director General,ICMR, New Delhi; Dr. N.C Jain, Scientist G & Head, Division of HRD, ICMR Head quarters New Delhi ; Dr Neelam Vaney, Director Professor, Department of Physiology. University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi; Dr. Rajeev Gupta, Chairman, ARDU, RUHS, Jaipur and Dr. Babban.
  1. In the Inaugural session, talk was delivered by Dr. V.M. Katoch, Former Director General , ICMR, New Delhi on “Predatory Journals – A threat to original Research.”Dr. Katoch emphasized on the threat of predatory journals. He explained the term Predatory journal .He added that publications and improving the benchmark of medical research is must. Dr. Katoch spoke about the young and new journals. New journals which are appropriate in regards to required standards should be encouraged. Choosing good journal and filtering is important. The goals of a researcher should be to publish a paper which is cited by other researchers in their study.
  2. Second talk session was delivered by Dr. N.C. Jain, Scientist G & Head, Div of HRD ICMR Headquarters, New Delhi on the topic. Growing Menace of Predatory Journals’. He began his talk by explaining the research output of Scientists. He apprised the participants of the given major P’ s of research which include Process development, product development, patents, publications, projects, profits, program. Dr. Jain talked about ISSN; S & T Journals in major databases, web of science core collection, scopus content coverage guide. He explained’ Publish or Perish syndrome’, Peer review and Review literature, Breakdown of Research cultures, research misconduct.Dr. Jain also discussed various ways to check and avoid predatory journals some of which are DOAJ, OASPA, COPE, WAME, etc and indicators to select right journal.
  3. Next captivating talk was delivered by Dr. Neelam Vaney, Director professor, Department of Physiology, University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi and editor of renowned IJPP Journal, on the topic “What Editors look for in an article”. In her talk Dr. Neelam explained the importance of publishing an article. She clarified various roles like that of an editor- decision fair play, Confidentiality; a reviewer -contribution to editorial decision, promptness, disclosure & conflicts of interest; author -report standards, data access and retention. Authors should submit their articles to right journal and to one journal only. He/she should not submit salami articles, should check vocabulary, grammar and be self critical. Dr. Neelam emphasized that an editor wants a paper which is interesting ,exciting, should deal with advancement in knowledge, true and accurate.
  4. The fourth session went on by Dr. Rajeev Gupta MD, PhD, Chairman ARDU, RUHS, Jaipur on the topic “Ways to get your published paper noticed”. He started his talk by giving important tips for getting a paper noticed, some of which are to write a clear paper, to write a lay summary and post it somewhere, to tell press office about it, prepare social media circle.
  5. Post lunch session was an interactive session between the participants and resource speakers like Dr.N.C Jain, Dr. Neelam Vaney, Dr. Babban. The session was made thought provoking by questions posed by the participants . This was followed by narration of answers by the speakers.
  6. Vote of thanks was delivered by the Principal ,RUHSCMS , Dr.Sudhanshu Kacker.
  7. Felicitation ceremony was carried out with certificate distribution to the participants by the guest speakers.

Autonomic Functions in Health and Pre Diseases (08/06/2017 To 08/06/2017)

CME on Autonomic Functions in Health and pre Diseases was organised by RUHS on 8th June 2017. RMC accredited the CME with 2 credit hours. Dr Mario Vaz, Professor of Physiology at St John’s Medical College was the Resource Faculty for the CME.

CME on Health and Nutrition organised by RUHS on 6.5.17 . Dr Anura Kurpad, Head Department of Clinical Nutrition, St John’s Medical College, Bangalore and Dr V.M.Katoch, former Director General, ICMR were the Resource Faculty in the CME.RMC accredited the CME with 2 credit hours. More then 100 teaching faculty members and students participated in the CME.
